
Operational Freight Forwarder - Defense Industry

Our client is searching for a motivated and detail-oriented Freight Forwarder to join their team, specializing in the unique and demanding logistics requirements of the Canadian defense sector. The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of experience in freight forwarding, with a proven track record of handling defense-related shipments and providing exceptional customer service. This role is a great opportunity for a junior to mid-level professional looking to deepen their expertise in a specialized and critical area of logistics. Key Responsibilities • Direct Customer Interaction: Serve as the primary point of contact for our Canadian defense customers. This includes understanding their specific shipping needs, providing updates, and resolving any issues that may arise • Operational Management: Plan, coordinate, and execute the movement of freight, including domestic and international shipments. This involves booking carriers (air, ocean, road), preparing all necessary documentation, and tracking shipments from origin to destination • Defense Sector Compliance: Ensure all shipments comply with Canadian and international defense regulations, including customs clearance procedures, security protocols, and export/import controls (e.g., controlled goods) • Documentation and Administration: Prepare and manage all shipping documents, such as bills of lading, airway bills, customs declarations, and commercial invoices. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in our transportation management system (TMS) • Problem-Solving: Proactively identify and resolve potential issues related to transit delays, customs holds, or documentation errors. Communicate any challenges to the customer and management in a timely manner • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, carriers, and customs brokers to ensure a smooth and efficient logistics process Skills and Qualifications • Experience: 1-3 years of experience in freight forwarding, with a strong preference for candidates who have worked with Canadian defense contracts or related government logistics • Defense Acumen: A solid understanding of the defense logistics environment, including an awareness of security requirements, controlled goods, and government contracting procedures • Customer Service: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a customer-first mindset • Organizational Skills: Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple shipments and deadlines simultaneously in a fast-paced environment • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS) and other logistics software. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required • Problem-Solving: A proactive and resourceful approach to overcoming logistical challenges • Certification: Certified Logistics Professional (CLP) or Certified Canadian Freight Forwarder (CCFF) designations are considered an asset Reimer Associates Inc. thanks you for your application and interest in this opportunity.
